Legendary director Kon ICHIKAWA’s long-forgotten animation masterpiece SHINSENGUMI has never before been screened outside of Japan. Produced for Fuji TV in 2000, the film reinterprets the story of a special samurai force – the Shinsengumi – at the end of the Edo period. The film was subtitled exclusively for the festival by Japan Visualmedia Translation Academy (JVTA).

Director Bio
Kon ICHIKAWA (1915–2008) originally started out as an animator at J. O. Studio in Kyoto in early 1930s and made more than 80 films encompassing all genres over the course of his career.
