Nippon Animation
While anime films generated considerable revenue at the Japanese box office – six out of the ten most successful films in 2014 belonged to that genre – simulcasts of anime series become increasingly popular abroad. Again, NIPPON ANIMATION sets out to show the diversity of animation in Japan. While PSYCHO-PASS: THE MOVIE and APPLESEED ALPHA represent two breathtaking examples of big budget animation, three programs focus on independent productions that don’t shy away from unconventional and innovative approaches. A particular highlight of this year’s program is the first international screening of Kon ICHIKAWA’s SHINSENGUMI, exclusively presented and subtitled for NIPPON CONNECTION by Japan Visualmedia Translation Academy.
