Nippon Cinema
Japan as a film nation is very much alive. Japanese films account for more than 50% of their home country’s box office, and Japanese filmmakers are regularly invited to international film festivals. However, Japanese film does not figure as prominently in the international debate as it did in the 1990s. Still, this year’s NIPPON CINEMA program shows that Japan is a film force to be reckoned with. MIIKE, Sabu and TSUKAMOTO present their freshest films in years; Ryuichi HIROKI, Kazuyoshi KUMAKIRI and Yuya ISHII reconfigure the Japanese family drama while Tetsuya NAKASHIMA takes cinema to dangerous new places. All that and the spectacle and entertainment of PARASYTE and SOLOMON’S PERJURY to boot!
In 2015, the audience will once again be able to bestow the NIPPON CINEMA AWARD upon their favorite film. The prize money of 2,000 € is donated by Bankhaus Metzler from Frankfurt.
