SILENT COLOR SILENT VOICE

Poetic images and fine Japanese specialities coin this years’ film dinner: look forward to the ample bento boxes and the wonderful documentary SILENT COLOR SILENT VOICE (2008) by Ayako MOGI, which envisions the peaceful life in the small paradise called Iriomote Island in the south of Japan. Akiko and Kinsei ISHIGAKI lead a simple life close to nature on Iriomote Island (Okinawa). Traditional manual work and the dyeing of fabrics with natural colors fills their days. Time runs at a slower pace than in the hectic world of big cities. But the idyllic environment is threatened by the spreading of real estate projects. A portrait of a special community presented in colorful and poetic images.
