Akira KUROSAWA is considered to be one of Japan's master directors. With his drama RASHOMON (1949), KUROSAWA revolutionized the way in which movies were narrated and he drew international attention to the Japanese cinema for the first time. Dr. Marcus Stiglegger (University of Mainz), a renowned academic in the field of film studies, didn’t just study KUROSAWA as an author but actually dared to reinterpret him. This lecture focuses on the meaning of KUROSAWA's movies within international cinema and is addressed to all the fans of Japanese movie classics and to film fans in general.
