During summer holidays, three boys discover the solitary house of an eccentric old man. Hoping to discover his corpse when he dies, they spy on him. But soon the boys form a strong bond with him, even replanting his overgrown garden. As they learn the reason for his bitterness, they set out a plan to help him. Once more, director Shinji SOMAI proves his skill in working with child actors. Completely entering a children’s world, and yet observing the characters from a distant perspective, THE FRIENDS tells a charming and moving coming-of-age-story.
